most korean groups is just lame in japan
It’s a been a while after i wrote something like this. About Kpop and Jpop.
Recently, there a many korean groups debuted in Japan and the latest are KARA and SNSD. Both of them are famous outside Korea. So, what’s the matter?
Nope. i don’t have any problem with it since i’m not kpop fans. i just ignored it when i knew about it. But, there a few things that make me feel annoying.
When i read some articles posted about them, i’m getting sick of it. They keep saying kpop is blowing up, way better than jpop and bla bla bla…and all these things become more annoying when the group want to debut in Japan.
i don’t care if these groups gonna debut in Japan but one thing that i really cannot stand with is fans and media praised them too much! Some of the articles said that they are very famous and getting more popular then jpop group even before their single is released!!
it is not wrong if u want to give positive comments or praise them but don’t overdid it. i don’t know why people saying kpop is better than jpop. it is just because they are famous. not more than that.
SNSD for example, released GENIE which is their debuting single about a week ago. before it is released, there were many articles said they will surpass jpop group popularity. Promotion is everywhere. What can i say, they are getting too much attention.
Then, i checked their total sale for the first day it is released. they ranked #5 with the sale around 10k. Got top five is not bad but when the sale is compared, i think it is bad. i thought they could sold 50k-100k copies in the first day.
i’m not saying they are failed or not, since they just debuted but what i want to say here is, don’t make it BOOM! before u know the result. getting too much attention and just sold 10k copies? it is lame.
they are just debuted but why fans made it as if they have been in Japan industry for 10 years?? come on, this is Japan Industry. it is not easy as u think. Those people who said Jpop is suck or lower than kpop, please recheck it. They are 2nd largest industry after US!
u may say kpop is better, but if they are truly better than jpop, why they debuted in Japan? Why they couldn’t sell over 100k on the day it is released like jpop singer/group did? Even DBSK couldn’t outsell ARASHI.
most of korean groups today, they will directly translating the song to the japanese when they want to debut. it is what u called “way better than jpop”? why don’t they make another song that is original in japanese?
that’s why i’m pissed of it. in japan, there are not jpop only, but also jrock, j-reggae. j-hip hop and other indies band or singer which are hard to find in kpop. their music is solid, various and of course original. it is not easy to compete. there are also jrock groups that managed to sell 500k for the single.
can kpop groups do this? it is possible but with their music, i don’t know. korean groups lack of originality. just focus on choreography doesn’t mean anything.
so, to kpop fans, please.don’t overdid just because they are famous. u need to think jpop group also. they have ARASHI, AKB48, KAT TUN and the veteran who have been in the industry for years like SMAP, TOKIO, X JAPAN etc.
anyone can debut and release single in Japan but can they success there? can they truly success in Japan?
hehe.. here's what other ppl replied.
I understand your frustration. The reason why korean groups debut in japan is because the industry is much larger. Their are twice as many people in japan than korea so its only natural that they try to go there and make more money. Selling 50,000 copies in korea is like selling 100,000 in japan. Also you can’t compare arashi with dbsk, arashi’s been do activites in japan since they were kids. Dbsk just happened to come along around the same time as KAT-TUN. Japanese artists will always do better than korean artists in japan..you know why well because its japan. The language is different and jpop artist have stability. It would be the same if jpop artist came to korea. If you compared them in asia as a whole arashi doesn;t stand a chance. The reason why the media is hyping it up is because they’ve never seen anything like kpop before. Koreans structure their groups in a way that everyone does everything. Everyone can sing, dance, act, MC, and model. They go through training for at least six years before they debut. Your telling me that akb48 has more talent than snsd…vocaling and performance wise. Put the girls up individually…snsd would cream them. The same goes for arashi and dbsk…everyone in dbsk can sing and dance amazingly on their own. Name one group in johnny’s that can do that. The only reason why they sell more(in japan) is because they’ve been there longer, they’re more well known ,and they’re japanese.DBSK set the world record for having the most fans in the world. They’re in the guiness book right now. Sad to say the quality in pop music is outdated in japan..especially girl groups. But that doesnt mean that the other categories are the same…like rock and hiphop. One thing I like about japan is jrock…they have some of the best rock songs ive ever heard.Their are also some great k-rock groups like FT-Island and CNBlue.. you should check them out. But i would have to give the rock industry to japan they rock. Oh and SNSD are number two on the oricon charts now and KARA is still in the top ten after 4 weeks. The only people who get those kind of debut numbers are extremely popular groups. You can say you don’t like their music but you can’t tell me that ak48 is better than snsd…thats insanity. Lastly japan isn’t the only country these groups are trying to be successful in…they want to be the top group in all of asia not just japan. They also promote in thailand and China.
i’m not saying akb48 is good than snsd because i know there are some of the members cannot sing well. here, i try to compare their success in the industry. the reason why i put akb48 as an example is because right now they are very famous there and they got #1 on the chart in a row. but, saying snsd is madly famous than akb48 and make they look like GOD of any idol group in Japan is totally cannot be accepted. like u said, snsd is no 2 in the chart but look at their sale. i’m okay if they can sale 100k because they got too much attention before the single is released. if only the fans do not hyping them up like hell, i would not post this. i give u an example, i want to make a film for the first time then i announce to the people confidently through the media, newspaper and website everyday that i will get 20 million dolar by this film. i also state my film is getting popular and people who do not watching it will totally regret. and when my film is screening at cinema, i just get about 600 000 dolar. what do u feel? what is ur opinion on me? it’s just like that. and when u said DBSK is holding world record for having the most fans in the world, i’m not denying it. but, when it comes to japan, they cannot beat arashi. yes, arashi debuted 10 years ago while DBSK around 2006-2007 and it is unfair to compare both groups. arashi is still popular until now even they debuted long time ago. they can maintain their popularity. they hold the records for the single and album released. that is what some of korean groups cannot do. they have a lot of group and mushrooming each year. but, just few of them can maintain the popularity for years. DBSK is one of them. BoA too but she is soloist. u might be true that DBSK, SNSD and KARA is widely known but the chart shows either they are truly success or not. i admit DBSK is success there but what about the other group?
most people said pop music in japan are outdated. but u know what, jpop and kpop are totally different. jpop may be sound like 80s but managed to sell half a million in a week with that “80s music” is seriously amazing. u said because the korean group isn’t japanese that’s why they cannot sell well in Japan. then, why don’t the music and the highlight given to them didn’t help them? fans said kpop is modern. Their strength is music, dancing, fashion and other talents. They are strong enough to conquer the chart even they aren’t japanese. jpop in other hand didn’t have all these. music sound like 80s, some members cannot singing well, do not have great choreography but these is enough to make them success in the industry. u already know that japan industry did not promise that the local group will be success even they are idol group. so, why they can do that? that is because their strength is the music itself. they have good music arrangement with various style of music. most of the lyrics is meaningful.(i’m not pointed this to jpop only but for all japanese music genres). in general, jpop is strong and better because of the uniqueness. that’s why korean group will never beat them. anyway, thanx for ur comments and i appreciate it.
LOL….SNSD are more famous than akb48….you can’t just look at japan you need to look through a world’s perspective. Its like saying arashi is more famous than beyonce… yeah maybe in japan but not in a world view do understand my point. Different countries like different types of music its only normal but if you see multiple countires loving a specific band/group now thats something else. Im not denying that arashi is more popular in japan that would be kindof sad if they weren’t but you can’t judge popularity soley on one country. That why people say dbsk is the top group in asia. Not because they outsale every top artist in each country but that all of asia know them and buy their music if some band from another country just translated their song into japanese and then became more popular than arashi or akb48 in japan
that would be pathetic. Its nice that you really like jpop and like defending it but honestly in my opinoin kpop is better and in time will become
more famous than jpop
Most people know
jpop because of anime..people know kpop on
music and talent alone..Even though korea’s economy is small, and population is less than half of japan, and their music doesnt have a big megaphone like anime
to open the doors for foreigners to look into its
industry and see the many other artists in it
..its still matching up well against jpop
If you want to say that their music arrangement is better okay… are their top songs done by them personally. If the only thing they have to fall on is music arrangement and its not even done by them????What else do the aritist have
to match up against kpop artist. Let me give you an example. bigbang all of their songs and lyrics are produced by gdragon. And their chroro. is done by them too. They are full of talent but they can’t even sell 50,000copies in japan
(it breaks my heart really). they don’t sell that many copies in japan
but do you know how many countries download their
music and know them ..heck prez hilton has a little corner for them on his website and will-i-am is trying to push them and 2ne1 into the american market. You see their type of music is not amazingly popular in japan even though they have amazing talent. But the rest of the world acknowledges their talent..that is why they are famous..you cant base popuarity on one country if they can get into the charts of different countries, especially in eruope(bigbang), America(wonder girls), and Asia(DBSK) and be acknowledged as true artists in that country
then they are top artists. You can’t base a native with a foreginer that not fair..not even famous people in the U.S can get number ones in the oricon charts but does that mean arashi is more famous and talented then them?????????
okay, okay.you’re right about they are widely known than arashi or akb48 but here, what i want to say is in JAPAN only. and u said they composed the lyrics by themselves, okay. they are talented. but, what i mean is the arrangement of the music. whoever wrote the lyrics it doesn’t matter because the most important is the content and the quality. i’m not saying gdragon or whoever kpop artists do not have the quality on the music they composed but most of korean songs(nowadays) just about love and something that i cannot get what they are trying to say. of course, there are also jpop songs like that. but in general, that’s how is it. about that download thing, yes, their mp3 have been downloaded many times but that is because most of kpop fans prefer downloading insted of buying the single. jpop fans in other hand tend to buy the single. that’s it.
You are so BIAS!
I am so TIRED of Kpop fans being so high and mighty especially when their groups are the ones debuting in the Jpop market. Sheesh, SNSD are not that talented. Put them with a bunch of girls with training in dance or singing from the USA and they would all look so weak compared to them.
They are IDOLS! They do not even make their own MUSIC!They are not artists who produce, and arrange their music or albums. They aren’t all that.
JAPAN has many artists who actually make their own songs, singles and albums. It is not dominated by idols and will not survive only by idols like the Korean market. That’s their biggest problem. Kpop has soooooo many immature fans like you because they only chunk out idols who all look the same (even though they’re trying to be edgy), and all sound the same with autotune. No wonder it’s so messed up. Their fans attack each other over everything; it’s so annoying.

wait a minute! i think u’ve misunderstand what i’m talking about. I AM JPOP FANS!! NOT KPOP FANS!i don’t know if u read properly my post or u just give ur comment.
umm…I’m not trying to act high and mighty i was just giving my point of view on the music I love…..I was having a conversation about asian music with the person who wrote this. I don’t know why you felt the need to insult me, and call me immature. What did I say that was immature I wasn’t comparing kpop with US music…. of course they wouldn’t stand a chance.. I was comparing kpop and jpop…The only kpop artists i would ever defend are bigbang and 2ne1…..my favorite groups and I think they have talent especially when they do everything on their own.I’ve never said anything bad about jpop but then you sit there and write that we are immature. Not once did I ever insulted jpop the way you just did to kpop right now

come on la..
KPOP but the songs are in Japanese. no originality.
Doesn’t make sense at all…
hehehe... NO OFFENSE BUT my opinion is THEY'RE ALL BEING LIKE BUNCH OF HOUSEWIVES ARGUING BOUT A HOT MAN DAT SLEPT WITH THEM. IT'S LIKE A CATFIGHT! DON'T MIND THEM, THE MOST important thing is dat we should love both jpop n kpop. BUT BOTH SIDES HAVE POINTS.. i mean, Kpop do hv strong group like DBSK, SJ, 2PM n all that, but of course if you are competing against a person in his own country, he has a brighter future than you. but if that statement was true, then why DBSK got so much top-selling songs and ranked as the most famous group in Asia? i'm not siding on Kpop, i also love Jpop, especially KAT-TUN, SMAP, Arashi, AKB48 n all that (jeesh, i kept using these phrases.. O.o), but like i said, it's hard to compete against a person in his own country. but no matter what, PLEASE DON'T CALL ME A HYPOCRITE, I'M JUST TELLING MY OPINION. TO ANTIFANS OF BOTH SIDES THAT READ THIS, NO PUN OR OFFENSE INTENDED.
